I started the Thames Valley Writers’ Circle in 1993 after attending a creative writing course at Theale Green College of Further Education with Dorothy Winters and Joyce Robinson.  When the course ended, we thought it likely that we would lose contact and not meet again.  With this in mind we convinced the principal of Wilson Adult Education College to let us hire a room one evening a week.  From this, the Thames Valley Writers’ Circle was born.

After several venues over the years, we now meet at St Joseph’s Church Hall, in Tilehurst, Reading, on Tuesday evenings from 7.30 – 9.30 with breaks for holiday periods.   We are self-funding and subscriptions are on a pay-as-you-attend basis.  We arrange occasional workshops and guest speakers, and have been fortunate to have visits from Colin Dexter, Robert Harris, Mike Walker, Ann Schlee, Brian Stableford, Deborah Moggach, Lesley Wilson, Roisin McAuley and many other authors.

We belong to the National Association of Writers’ Groups.  This entitles members to free entry to NAWG annual competitions as well as the opportunity to take part in the annual conference and workshops with leading authors.

The Thames Valley Writers’ Circle endeavours to publish regular anthologies, which have won the Writers’ News Anthology of the Year Award on two occasions and the shield for the Best Self Published Book Award.

Several members of the Circle have had their work published and many have won local and national competitions.  The Circle website is:
